I wanted to write down the details of Lacey's birth so I won't forget them. I use my blog as a journal so here it goes.
On Wednesday night I called work (Del Webb) and asked them if they were ready for me to come in on Thurs. morning. They asked if I wanted to come in earlier. I told them I would sleep and when I woke up that I would probably come in. So I woke up about 3:00 a.m. and decided to go in. I took a shower and ate some eggs (my last meal for a while). I wanted Matt to stay home and get more sleep because frankly he is no good on little sleep and all they would be doing at the hospital is giving me antibiotics for the first couple of hours. SO I drove myself to the hospital and my friend Amanda took me as her patient. They asked where Matt was and I explained. All the nurses said I was smart to have him sleep more. Then he got the title of Dead Beat Dad!
So at 4:00 a.m. Amanda started my IV and antibiotics. I was GBS positive with Carson and so they decided to treat me with antibiotics this time even though I was negative. So my friends from work came in and we chatted a little. I was 2cm when they started the process. Then the Doctor came in at 7:30 and he broke my water. I will spare the details but lets just say he had to try twice and that was probably the part that hurt the worst. Matt showed up about 8:00 a.m. after his mom got to the house to watch Carson.
My mom and sister showed up about 9:00am. Poor Jody had just worked the night before and was suppose to go to my mom's house to sleep for a couple of hours. She came in and told me "She didn't trust my vagina." About 9:30 I got my epidural. I still was in no pain but knew I didn't need to have any. I have low blood pressure and a low resting heart rate. So I warned my nurse and she had ephedrine standing by. As I got my epidural Matt sat in front of me. I was holding my hands together squeezing them. Then realized after it was done why didn't I hold Matt's hand. Anyway he is afraid of needles and I don't think he realized it either.
After the epidural which didn't really hurt I started to feel very faint. They gave me oxygen and my blood pressure was okay at this time. Then the put a catheter in and my blood pressure dropped. I dropped to about 80/30 and stayed between that and about 100/60. My nurse pumped in 3 bags of IV solution and gave me 3 rounds of ephedrine IV. My sister was squirming so I knew she was worried. She told me my face got really white. I told them to start talking about other things to get my mind off of it. My poor nurse Stacy had to stay in the room for about 2 hours while to get my BP stable. I could tell her when I felt it going down and when the number was going to read higher. It is a good thing my dad wasn't here at this time because he would have been pacing and so worried.
Laura showed up about 11:00 and my dad shortly afterward. They checked me and I was still 3-4 cm. Every couldn't believe I hadn't progressed more yet. With all the BP issues it didn't affect Lacey at all. Soon after the ephedrine her heart rate was very high for about 2 hours but then it calmed down. They checked me again at 1:00 and I was still 4cm. I was worried because I wanted my doctor to deliver me before I went home. He promised he would stay.
At 3:30 my nurse came in and told me she was going home and switching with another nurse. She told me she would be out charting if anything happened in the next half hour. I thought yea right. I had been laying on my sides and so I decided to sit straight up. Ten minutes into that I started to feel shaky. Jen came in and checked me at 3:50 and she said I was complete. I though WHAT! This is great! She asked me to push and then said to stop so she could get the doctor. Everyone got ready with the cameras. I pushed about for 3 series of pushes and she was out.
I told Matt I wanted him to announce the sex. He said very surprisingly "It's a girl!" Everyone cheered. My poor dad was outside the room and heard the screams but didn't hear the sex. Shelby the nurse who trained me was Lacey's baby nurse. It was so awesome. Lacey's apgar was 9 and 9. She weighed 8 lbs even and was 21" long.
Soon after that Grandma and Grandpa Pribyl brought Shea and Carson down. Shea was excited but Carson wanted nothing to do with the hospital or baby. He clung to grandpa and wanted to "Go Home!"
I have the nurses curse (nursing lingo). Lacey was Coombs positive which made here more susceptible to jaundice. Her bilirubin levels started to rise very high. I was able to keep he in my room under bilirubin lights starting on Friday morning. We pulled some strings. He levels stayed about 6.8. Friday night I took her to the nursery and they kept her in there under the lights while Matt and I got some good sleep. Her levels finally came down and we left the hospital on Saturday about 7:30p.m.
My experience at Del Webb was awesome. Mostly because of all the people I work with. It was my best experience and the best labor experience. Whew that was a long post!
